Captain Tony Mathis

You’re in good hands with Captain Tony at the Helm!

I’m Captain Tony Mathis a Retired U.S. Marine, and the owner of Biloxi Sport Fishing. I grew up in South Louisiana as a kid fishing for Redfish and Speckled Trout. I fished from Houma to Grand Isle. My summers as a kid, were spent at Fishing Camps in the back bayous where we fished at daybreak for Redfish. At daybreak we would watch the Redfish tailing out along the shallows of the marsh. There was a peacefulness on the water as the sun was rising watching these Reds moving about.  As kids my cousins and I learned to fish together. Fishing became a great way for us to catch up as we grew older and went our separate directions.

While in the Marine Corps I took up fishing at every duty station. I have fished several places around the globe. Some of my most memorable fishing was done when I was deployed overseas in Japan. It was there that I got my own kids into fishing. I will never forget how their eyes would light up whenever they got a fish. It was a lot of fun for my family and we made tons of memories fishing those years in Japan. I’m particularly fond of fishing for Piranha in Thailand, and for Bass from the ponds of Saddam in Iraq. While deployed there was absolutely nothing better than fishing to relieve the stress and anxiety felt by my Marines and Sailors in those environments.

The Marine Corps stationed me in Honolulu, Hawaii for my “twilight tour.” While stationed in Hawaii, I started Island Charters Sportfishing based out of Honolulu. It was a thrill operating my own fishing business. Customers came from all over the planet, many of which were avid fishermen in their own countries, so we often shared fishing tips and little “tricks of the trade.” My kids established themselves in Honolulu as fishermen as well and each have their own Marlin over 580 pounds. After 13 years in Hawaii, I got a terrible case of “Island Fever” and moved back home to the Gulf Coast. I absolutely love the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I can remember as a kid fishing in Biloxi with family and friends for flounder. It wasn’t long after moving to Biloxi that I decided to open a new fishing business to
once again share my passion of fishing with others. In late 2019 I started Biloxi Sport Fishing and although the COVID Pandemic initially hindered the business, we have managed through it and have become quite successful. We look forward to hosting your next fishing trip and can assure you that Biloxi Sport Fishing will show you a great day on the water. “Semper Fi and Tight Lines.”
